About HRO
At Harness Racing Owner, we aim to provide profitable and exciting investment opportunities through our ownership share program.
We share our success with others through our ownership opportunities. We make the possibility of standardbred harness racing ownership to everyone looking to enjoy and grow the sport..
Harness Racing Owner is managed by partners who have been associated with the sport for many years. We’ve studied all facets of the operation and our results speak for themselves. Unlike other partnerships or syndicates, we know that if the owners are not making money and their horses are successful, no one benefits except the managing partners. The managing partners have shares in each horse. They claim and purchase horses with the same approach every time – race the horse where they can always be competitive. We are not afraid of losing any horse via a claim and always enter our horses in the class that best suits the horse. We are realistic about the value of each horse. We treat each horse with the proper business approach, maximizing return on investment.
We also maximize purse earnings as quickly as possible. We do not race our horses at simply one track, or one trainer, but rather at the best race environment and conditions for that particular horse. We spend hours researching the class of horse at each track, and we always search for opportunities where we believe that a specific class or condition is weak and as a result is optimal for our horses.
Success Stories
Search Mission:
We claimed this horse for $9,000 with a simple plan. We knew this horse could “trot all day long” and we immediately raced the horse in the Xtreme Trot Race. Mission raced well, finishing second and earning us $5,000 within a week of our claiming him. He was very unlucky not to win the race, as the horse in front of him broke off the gate, and Search had to come from 18th to finish second. Since then, we sent Search to a track where we knew he can be competitive. He finished 3rd in a $15,000 claiming race, so we dropped him to a $12,000 claiming race and he was an easy winner. Since then Search made us over $60,000 in purses, and we sold him for $15,000. That’s our philosophy - most owners would be happy with a 3rd place finish and $1,200 in purses. We weren’t so we put him in where he could win. We were prepared to lose him via a claim if anyone wanted him and we promptly earned $4,500 in purses. Not bad for a $9,000 claim.
The Big Fred:
We’ve gone to the well twice with this guy. The first time around we claimed Fred for $7,000 and one week later shipped him to where he could win. Fred won by 7 lengths and was claimed from us for $8,500. In one week we earned $4,700 profit: $1,500 profit on the claim, and $3,200 from the purse. We got Fred back 30 days later via a private purchase. In his first start back for us, Fred won by 4 lengths and we earned $4,500 in purses. We lost Fred via claim after he had earned $45,000 in purses in 5 months
Loaded:
When we claimed this horse for $6,000 (plus allowance) we thought he might suit the grassroots program. He had started 11 times with only one 2nd place finish and one 3rd place finish on his card, earning $4,000 at the time. Instead of grassroots, we made a decision to race Loaded in some non winners’ races. In 9 starts, Loaded has 4 wins, 2 seconds and 2 thirds and now has $22,000 in purse earnings. $18,000 in purse earnings in 75 days, all from a $6,000 claim.
Match Bayama:
Probably the smartest claim we have made. We found this guy in an $18,000 claiming race and drove out to claim him. Since then, Match has raced in 3 different provinces, winning in Preferred at Rideau (Ontario), and then finishing second in a Quebec Sires Stake program, and second in an elimination of the prestigious Gold Cup and Saucer in P.E.I... When we returned back to Ontario with Match, he promptly raced two weeks in a row in the preferred class at Rideau, finishing second and most recently winning. Match has made over $37,000 in purses in less then 3 months. He will continue dominating the preferred class at Rideau Carleton.
Other horses that have done well:
Lasensa:
We claimed this mare for $5,000 who was a steal at that price, she was a first time winner and has moved on currently racing at Mohawk.
Keystone Tristan:
He was purchased for $4,500 at the Delaware sale. He has been a very profitable purchase and continues making money month after month.
Okay so we’ve made quite a few good claims and purchases. Have we made some bad ones? Of course.
If they can’t produce, we move them very quickly; we are proud of our claims and purchases. How many stables can say they have had the same success with their claims?
Why not join us. We have big plans, and are looking for partners who want to enjoy the ride.
